This is a perfect Flower Frog designed by R.G. Cowan shape # 686 nude named Scarf Dancer and is 7 inches tall. 1912-1931 believe this was made during the 20's as it represents this era.
She is a Art Deco-style nude dancing woman in a curved pose standing on one leg & holding the ends of a long scarf in her outstretched hands in the ivory glaze.
R. Guy Cowan opened his first pottery studio in 1912 in Lakewood, Ohio. The pottery operated almost continuously, with the exception of a break during WWI, at various locations in the Cleveland area until it was forced to close in 1931 due to financial difficulties.
Many of this century's finest artists began with Cowan and it associate, the Cleveland School of Art. This fine art pottery, particularly the designer pieces, are highly sought after by collectors.Many people are unaware that it was due to R. Guy Cowan's perseverance and tireless work that art pottery is today considered an art form and found in many art museums.She is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks with only minor crazing.
